Quixotic
Joseph Beuys as Don Quixote
Art alone makes life possible – this is how radically I should like to formulate it. I would say that without art man is inconceivable in physiological terms.
—Joseph Beuys
I always regarded Beuys as ‘Quixotic’… not in the sense of lost in impossible dreams but chained to inevitable dreams. Creation is a given, an absolute necessity. Art is a motive, not a market.
